Abstract
Few guidelines exist for the psychiatric and psychological assessment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in psychiatric inpatient. The purpose of the present study was to establish the baseline data for use of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) to aid in the assessment and diagnosis of PTSD.
Eighty patients were assigned to either a PTSD group (n=50) or to a non-PTSD (n=30, somatoorm disorder). Standard clinical profiles showed that the PTSD group had higher mean evaluations of 1-3-2 configuration. The evaluation of the diagnosis of PTSD and the use of psychological tests in the assessment of psychiatric inpatient, are discussed.
